38 years of devotion – Thank you Barbara

barbaranjiric1Barbara Njiric, our Front Desk Manager, after 38 years of hard work, out of which 16 at ACI Marina Dubrovnik, is soon to be retired. We would add – much deserved after a lifetime of successful accomplishments. Although her passionate work, sincere commitment and individual approach to every guest will be greatly missed, we believe that the retirement period is only a progress forward to new exciting plans she has had for a while now.
Her career started back in 1974 at the Globtour travel agency where she worked for a number of years and gained significant experience in all aspects of the tourism sector. In 1996 she joins team of ACI Marina Dubrovnik as a Front Desk Manager, the position she has obtained until today. In addition to her daily tasks and countless achievements during her career, Barbara participated in organizing ACI Match Race, one of the most recognized race cups in the region. From arranging participants’ travel & transfers, organization of their accommodation to many other aspects of event planning that such a challenging event requires, Barbara succeeded in every part of it.
We could continue to brag about her enthusiasm and passionate work, but there are only two words we would like to say – THANK YOU Barbara. It’s been a privilege and an honor working with you…

Dubrovnik ACI Marina: A fantastic year behind us!

Mato Frankovic, Manager at the ACI Marina Dubrovnik is more than pleased with the season 2012 and has already started planning next year’s goals and work plans. ‘Over the years Dubrovnik has become a globally known brand – the breathtaking coast, crystal clear waters of Adriatic, fresh air, mountains, great food and fine wines…The list is long, so to see Dubrovnik recommended on Top Travel Lists for 2013 comes as no surprise to us. Whoever comes and experiences Dubrovnik and the surrounding islands, will return for sure.

How was the last season? Were there any changes?
Yes, actually several changes and developments. We invested significant funds in improvement of the existing infrastructure, in order to ensure a comfortable and pleasant stay for our guests. Additionally, besides the infrastructure and the overall offer at the Marina, we always try to do our best customer-service wise, and we have significantly improved our service – in all areas. Numerous recognitions and guests’ letters confirm this daily, so I must admit, I am pleased. But of course, there are always areas we can improve, and we will continue to do so in the future as well. Here at the Marina is all about our guests – their wishes and needs, comments and suggestions. We cannot move forward unless we listen carefully our guests’ thoughts and remarks.

What are your plans in years to come?
Many plans, but limited funds unfortunately. The crisis is taking its toll on many countries worldwide and on Europe too, and here in Croatia we also feel the impact of the crisis. But I believe that even in difficult times, the investments are necessary, as we must keep looking forward to the future. One of the projects I see vital for the Marina in the years to come is the building of a larger dry dock area and a purchase of a new travel lift of 130 BT as then we would become the only marina between Montenegro and Šibenik up north, to be able to lift a boat heavier than 60 BT. Additionally, more and more mega yachts visit Dubrovnik archipelago, so expanding of mega yacht capabilities is crucial. The mega yacht project is, I believe, vital not only for the ACI marina but for the city of Dubrovnik too, as the mega yacht service would be significantly improved and we would be able to cater additional guests and yachts. Last but not the least, the biggest investment we plan in the years to come is a renovation and refurbishment of the Sorkocevic castle. This unique and one of the most beautiful castles on the Adriatic coast, a part of the ACI Marina, would serve as a museum, but also would have accommodation facilities available.

Big plans for the future, and we look forward to accomplishing the set goals.

‘It is stressful and challenging, but hard work makes it all worthwhile if we have happy guests’ – The Marina life

IMG_1175 Life at the Marina is fun yet busy, exciting but rewarding – all our team members strongly agree. We took some time today to briefly talk with one of them, to find out more about tasks and work responsibilities they have on a daily basis.
Lidija Matić, ACI Marina front office agent, has been with us for the past 7 years and since 2005 obtains a position of Front Office agent in A category Marina.
Throughout the years, Lidija has been in charge of providing information to guests, assisting them with bookings and different activities, handling payments and currency exchange services, providing feedback and input from guests. Her job requires strong commitment and dedication as well as attention to details and a strong sense of responsibility.
‘It is all about our guests’ satisfaction – their happiness is our ultimate goal and everyone working at the front desk gives more than 100% to provide the most reliable and accurate information, as well as to do our best to see a pleased guest. It’s not always easy – there are good times and there are bad times, but a guest’s smile makes it all meaningful’ Lidija mentions, as we laugh and share stories over a cup of coffee. She continues – ‘At the beginning, it wasn’t easy – I didn’t know much about sailing, ships or nautical things in general, but from the start I fell in love with it. I guess it’s all about passion, when you do what you love, you give your best, plus it is all about our guests who come from all over the world – Italy, Germany, Great Britain and of course, local clients who have become my friends over the years’
‘Once you fall in love with the sea, there’s no way to stop it’ she concludes, and we couldn’t agree more.

Winter is almost here, is your boat ready?

With wintertime just around the corner, icy and rainy days have arrived and we can no longer enjoy sunshine and long warm days as much as we used to only a couple of weeks ago.  We already miss sizzling summer days but the reality is that we need to get ready for winter days ahead us and protect the boats from the wind and low temperatures during the upcoming months.

We talked about the best precautions and safety suggestions to the ACI Marina Dubrovnik Port Captain, Mr Cvjeto Stjepovic, who shared with us his recommendations regarding keeping your boat safe during winter months. To start with, Cvjeto advises that every boat owner carefully and cautiously checks all the hoses and underwater parts of the boat, as well as to close the seacocks and inspect other vital parts of the boat – electricity, pumps etc. Moreover, he recommends that all vent pipes should be closed, covers powerfully fixed and safe and that everything is properly locked. At the end of the season, the owners regularly book professionals who specialize in boat care services, in order to check the condition of their boats and to do possible check-ups and repairs, like underwater hull cleaning, engine control and service, polishing and waxing, cleaning of interiors, check bilges etc…

ACI Marina Dubrovnik offers boat guarding services and safe keeping throughout the year including:  daily inspection of boats and keeping sails clean, checking of the lines and ropes, inventory of equipment and interior, leak testing etc… Your boat is safe with us!

Taking care of your boat during winter time will ensure a long life of your boat and guarantee you a stress-free springtime. Don’t forget to take all the necessary steps and keep your boat safe so when the sun is out in March, you can enjoy a peaceful and tranquil sailing…

Our dear sailors, we wish you a happy sailing and fair winds! Stay safe!
